How FC Barcelona thinks about growth (and why you should too)
I love soccer.
And not just for the beautiful game itself, but for the business lessons hidden within it.
Think about it…
European league and Champions League teams aren't just sports clubs… they're sophisticated businesses with:
Massive revenue streams
Lucrative sponsorship deals
Prize money on the line
Performance-based incentives
And their managers?
They're essentially CEOs under immense pressure to deliver results.
This hit home during a recent conversation with a business owner who attended my workshop but wasn't qualified for my coaching program yet (he was only doing 60K-100K monthly revenue).
When we reconnected recently, he proudly told me:
"I did 1.4 million last year, and my goal for this year is 1.5 million."
I was floored.
Not impressed… shocked.
"How did you come up with that goal?" I asked.
"Well, the last few months were pretty low. We were doing around 60K monthly, so I'd be happy with 1.5 million this year."
This is literally the WORST possible thinking.
He's shooting for less than 10% growth at BEST.
In this scenario:
At best, he hits his unambitious goal
At worst, he maintains or declines, eventually going out of business
So I challenged him…
"What if you HAD to hit 3 million this year?
Gun to your head… what would you do differently?"
Without hesitation, he said…
"I'd focus all my time on marketing. We have too many products. And honestly, I've got a bunch of people who don't know what they're doing."
"You just told yourself what the issue is," I responded.
"You need to bring in top players."
"Wouldn't it be better to develop my current team?" he asked.
That's when I used this soccer analogy…
Barcelona, one of the world's top soccer teams, needed a striker who could score goals.
They had two options:
Develop a young player (takes time, no guaranteed results)
Sign Robert Lewandowski, a proven striker guaranteed to score 25+ goals each season
They chose option b… and it paid off.
In business, that's exactly what you need to do with your team.
Sometimes developing talent is the right move, but when you need guaranteed results fast, you bring in proven performers.
This is just one of many powerful business frameworks I teach in the 5-Day 7-Figure Growth Accelerator Workshop happening on March 11th.
In this workshop, you'll learn:
How to set ambitious but achievable growth targets (not pathetic 10% goals)
When to develop talent vs. when to hire proven performers
How to apply elite sports team strategies to your business operations
The exact scaling blueprint used by businesses that grow 100%+ year over year
