You don’t need to start over to start fresh
Have you seen the news about the "resurrected" dire wolves?
Scientists at Colossal Biosciences have genetically engineered three wolf pups that may resemble the extinct dire wolves that roamed North America over 10,000 years ago.
These aren't your average wolves…
They're already 80 pounds at just 3-6 months old and are on track to reach a massive 140 pounds when fully grown.
The scientists used CRISPR technology to modify cells from living gray wolves at 20 different genetic sites, then transferred that material to a dog egg cell, which was implanted in surrogate dogs.
While these animals might physically resemble dire wolves, scientists point out they can never truly be the extinct species.
As one researcher noted…
"What they will probably never learn is the finishing move of how to kill a giant elk or a big deer," because they won't have dire wolf parents to learn from.
