What coaching 7-year-olds taught me about scaling

What coaching 7-year-olds taught me about scaling

Last week…

I'm pacing the sidelines of my daughter's soccer match, hand on my chin…

Watching our team of U8 girls face off against a squad that looks like they've been playing together since birth.

My goal was simple (and probably familiar to you as an entrepreneur)...

WIN.

And build a championship team that dominates the league.

There was just one small problem…

My team had exactly two experienced players…

My daughter (who's been doing interval training since she was 2) and another girl who was the second-highest scorer on her previous team.

The rest?

Sweet kids who had barely kicked a ball before this season.

I couldn't exactly go on a recruiting spree or trade for better players. This wasn't the Premier League… It was 7-year-old girls' soccer.

So I made a drastic change to our approach.

I threw out the standard formation (2 defenders, 2 midfielders, 1 forward) that every other coach was using…

And implemented what soccer purists would call "ANTI-FOOTBALL"

An ultra-defensive 3-1-1 formation with my daughter playing a hybrid role, shuttling between defense and attack.

The strategy was simple…

Pack the defense, prevent goals at all costs, and rely on lightning-fast counterattacks through my daughter to our lone striker whenever we won the ball.

It wasn't pretty.

It wasn't what the parents expected.

It certainly wasn't what the other coaches respected.

But you have to work with what you have…

And that's when it hit me…

Your business success isn't about conforming to some "ideal" model… it's about working with what you ACTUALLY have.

So many entrepreneurs fail because they're trying to build a business based on someone else's identity rather than designing one that leverages their unique strengths.

I see this constantly with the 7-figure entrepreneurs I coach…

  • The analytical introvert trying to be the charismatic stage presenter because they think that's what a "successful entrepreneur" looks like

  • The visionary idea person attempting to micromanage operations because they believe "ReAl CEOs" handle every detail

  • The expert service provider building complex funnels and automation because "that's how you scale" (even though their genius is in high-touch service)

These entrepreneurs are all playing by someone else's playbook… and wondering why it's not working.

Just like I would have failed miserably if I had tried to play beautiful attacking soccer with my limited team…

You'll struggle if you build a business that doesn't align with who you really are.

The entrepreneurs who make seven and eight-figure growth look "effortless" aren't working harder than everyone else...

They've simply built businesses that leverage their authentic strengths while systematically minimizing their weaknesses.

And it all starts with having the right identity… knowing who you are, what you're exceptional at, and designing your entire business model around those truths.

Which is why this Tuesday, I'm hosting the NEW Self-Image Alchemy Workshop…

…Where I'll guide you through creating an authentic business identity that leverages your unique strengths.
